Meet Kelly Hopper, a competent, compassionate, common-sense Conservative seeking the nomination in Calgary Confederation. Born and raised in Calgary, Kelly blends deep local roots with extensive global experience. From performing in the Opening Ceremonies of the 1988 Winter Olympics to building an accomplished career in international finance and community service, her life reflects a consistent commitment to excellence and service.
Upon permanently returning to Canada during the pandemic after 15+ years in Texas, Kelly was disturbed and deeply concerned about the direction of the country after years of Liberal government, and she felt compelled to step forward and help get Canada back on track.
Soon after returning to Calgary, Kelly ran for the Conservative nomination in Calgary Signal Hill. Though initially unknown, she built her campaign from the ground up—door knocking almost daily for over six months in a highly competitive “safe seat.” Every supporter she earned (aside from her parents!) came through direct conversations at the doorstep, reflecting her grassroots approach and determination.
During the 2025 federal election, former Calgary Confederation candidate Jeremy Nixon invited Kelly to bring her energy and commitment to the campaign. She became one of its most active volunteers, knocking on more than 1,700 doors across Confederation. Kelly also campaigned extensively for Pierre Poilievre during his byelection, traveling to communities throughout Battle River–Crowfoot. She was selected to lead Voting Day efforts in the Drumheller area—coordinating volunteers, supporting scrutineers, and organizing a volunteer appreciation gathering on election night. In addition, she contributed to four other federal Conservative campaigns in 2025, as well as provincial campaigns in Ontario and New Brunswick.
Kelly was born and raised in Calgary. Kelly's roots in Calgary run deep, while her professional and volunteer endeavors have spanned the globe, showcasing her remarkable ability to navigate and enhance the diverse tapestry of international cultures and economies. With over 25 years of professional experience, Kelly has not only thrived in Canada but has also left a lasting impact worldwide, including in China and Taiwan, Mexico, USA, the UK, and Western Europe, working directly within these dynamic markets. Her work partnering with immigrant entrepreneurs from Southeast Asia while at 7-Eleven further strengthened her understanding of cultural diversity—an important asset in a constituency as diverse as Calgary Confederation.
A University of Calgary alumna, Kelly's academic background in Canadian Studies and Commerce, combined with her experience as an accountant, have laid a solid foundation for her distinguished career in Finance and Organizational Transformation. From steering companies through critical turnarounds to spearheading engagements in the Big 4, Private Equity, and Fortune 200 companies, her path has been marked by relentless pursuit of excellence, innovation, and servant leadership. Kelly's work across continents in the restaurant industry, consumer goods, technology, energy, manufacturing, and health care, especially during the challenging times of the subprime mortgage crisis in the USA while building a newly acquired subprime mortgage servicing platform of companies, demonstrates her exceptional ability to drive positive change and keep communities thriving.
Kelly's vision for Calgary Confederation is rooted in her extensive experience and her deep commitment to fiscal responsibility, accountability, economic growth, cultural diplomacy and deep caring for ALL people. She will leverage her international experience and business acumen to address the economic challenges facing our community, focusing on balancing the budget, less government, lower taxes, leaving more money in the hands of the taxpayer resulting in more choice and freedom as to where his or her hard earned dollars will be spent. Having been born and raised in Calgary, Kelly in her late 20's, joined the "brain drain" and moved to the USA for what was meant to be 2 years and turned into 2 decades, spending a lot of time in Calgary often visiting her family who has resided in Calgary her whole life. Kelly has a strong desire to help preserve and regain for Canada what makes us the best nation on earth while increasing prosperity and freedoms we have been losing due to 11 years of irresponsible, unaccountable Liberal government, which has made Canada poorer, weaker, and more divided than ever before.
